Many people mistakenly believe that bathroom waterproofing can be done cheaply and simply as a DIY job or through the services of an unlicensed handyman. The best advice is don’t risk it. The truth is that bathroom waterproofing starts long before the tiles are laid and often continues after the room is painted.

The biggest problem of water leakage is where the floor meets the walls.  This is where water tends to accumulate and if wet areas are not properly sealed leaking water can lead to timber rot, concrete cancer and other property damage that can even undermine the foundations of the house.

For waterproofing showers, most councils require a waterproofing sealant to be used to a height of 1800mm. The walls that are not directly exposed to large flows of water need to be sealed to a height of 150mm.
